A New Direction -
Introducing a paid tier for my creative work
Dear friends, 57 free subscribers might not be the biggest account on Substack, but I am grateful. Many of you have found me through the Warrior Wednesday / Sword and Saturday, and have read my stories “The Naming Ritual” “Deity Auditions.” and my six part serial “A Brief Interlude”. I have been less active since then, but I have still been writing. I have stories that I really want to share, but these belong in projects I intend to self publish at a later date, and therefore I need to keep them behind a paywall.
Let me Introduce myself… again!
Hello friends. I'm an Australian writer (and self-publisher) who loves crafting stories across all genres, with a particular passion for Fantasy, Gothic, Fairy Tale, Pulp, and Literary fiction. It is a dream of mine to one day release 'best of X genre' collections of my work, and Substack allows me the freedom to pursue that.
I often feel pulled by opposing forces - cherishing classical literature while embracing future possibilities, appreciating fine art alongside pop culture, immersing myself in sword and sorcery tales while practicing Buddhist mindfulness. These contrasts often conflict - yet they help create a voice that is uniquely mine. This is part of what I offer as a writer, myself, no matter what I write, or how, my author DNA is part of it.
Along with writing, I'm also a bit of an amateur artist, so you'll often see my stories paired with visuals - hand-drawn illustrations, digital art, even AI-generated images when they serve the story.
Some of my stories will be illustrated by my talented mother, Anthea M. I am hoping at some point that she will start her own Substack newsletter, and when she does It will be on my recommended list. We are going to be collaborating on a series of children's books in the near future and I am really excited about this upcoming project.
What I Offer:
Free Tier:
Weekly short newsletter, often an expanded version of the notes I have posted throughout the week. This may include:
Flash Fiction / Poetry / Serial Fiction
Book and Film Reviews
Short Essays
Paid Tier:
Weekly short story or serial novel chapter (These will be collected and Self Published at a later date.)
Longer Essays
Additional exclusive content themed with upcoming books
Extra artwork and music
Podcast, Members chats, etc.
I invite you to join me on this creative journey where words, art, and music converge. Subscribe today and let's explore these worlds together!
Here is my pitch - If you like what you have read so far, it would benefit us both if you subscribe. I intend to make it as cheap as possible, cup of coffee cheap, and you will get everything I write straight to your email. You will also get pdf files of anything I self-publish, plus exclusive bonus content not included in the official releases.
Subscription is only $3.00 USD per Month or $19.51 USD for the year! This will be converted to your local currency.
Now, you may not be in a position to subscribe, or have no wish to, I understand completely. We all have bills, and are subscribed to many things already. The good news is that I will release a free newsletter, on a weekly basis, and I promise it wont be all upsell. I hate reading a story on Substack to find that it was only a preview - and I am not going to do that to you - I promise!
Here is what's in the pipeline for paid subscribers:
A series of stories featuring classic pulp and cartoon superheroes.
A series of Fairy Tales
A middle grade fantasy novel, which, like the Harry Potter novels, can be enjoyed by all ages.
A series of Mermaid stories (It’s my Substack and I can write Mermaid stories if I want to!)
A serialized Sword and Sorcery novel with Zen inspired elements.
A Poetry book
A Christmas Anthology
A Comic book and so much more!
I hope you consider subscribing or upgrading your subscription. I am determined to produce quality work that justifies the cost.
Dear friends, I enjoy getting feedback and am always happy to read your comments. Let me know what you think about ‘This new direction!’ Do you like the idea? Feel it is too soon? Interested, or not interested in what I am offering? All feedback is welcome, it can only help in my Substacking adventure.
