Be My Guide — Invoking the Great Owl
Be My Guide
O great Owl.
Magnificent spirit.
Sixty million years in our midst.
Your image painted on ancient stone,
struck into silver coinage.
Found throughout all lands -
Worshipped, despised,
admired, and feared.
Listen to my prayer,
be my guide.
O great Owl.
Wisest of animals.
You see the unseen,
illuminate truth from deception.
Athena’s council,
whisperer of unvarnished fact.
Unmask those who would take advantage,
and protect me from my own folly.
O great Owl.
Underworld’s messenger.
Once I have tasted my last summer,
bear my soul on its final journey.
Guide me through the waiting dark,
and plead my case to any who bar the way.
Until that day,
I pledge to follow your guidance.
May we meet in the divine forest,
on unspoiled ground,
as the Earth had once been.

I hope you enjoy this poem. I was inspired to write it after seeing the artwork created by my mother. There was a time when I was interested in Wicca and although I still find it fascinating I have not identified as such for a long time. Spirituality is unique to each person, and I think we all go through different phases, and even if we change, there are still parts that remain.
